Starr offers a variety of community-based and in-home programs for children and families. Community-based programs serve as prevention and early intervention measures aimed at helping children and families flourish.

Detroit

Youth Assistance Program — YAP works to help youth, ages 7-17, build confidence, self-esteem and boost academic performance. Understanding negative peer interactions, social issues, family issues, pressure to engage in premature sexual activity, teenage pregnancy, substance abuse, truancy from school and/or home, domestic violence and other violent behaviors is also addressed.

Outcomes

Battle Creek Community-Based Programs

In our recent annual satisfaction survey period, reflecting the 2016-2017 fiscal year, the following outcomes were shown:

  • 88% of youth have not had an out-of-home placement 6 months after release from program
  • 83% have not gone to an emergency room for a mental health crisis 1 year after release from program

Treatment Quality

  • Youth rate the ‘overall quality of services’ for Battle Creek services 4.4 at discharge, with 5 meaning ‘excellent

Detroit Community-Based Programs

In our recent annual satisfaction survey period, reflecting the 2016-2017 fiscal year, the following outcomes were shown:

  • 94% of youth made positive progress on treatment goals
  • 100% of youth did not have a new arrest while in the program
  • 92% youth completed the program sucessfully
