Presentations start promptly at 8:30 a.m. and end at 3:45 p.m. Attendees must sign-in at the beginning of the course and sign-out at the end, as well as complete a course evaluation before they can receive a CE Certificate of Attendance.

TUESDAY, JUNE 11

TRAUMA INFORMED RESILIENT SCHOOLS
Prerequisite: None

Overview:
This course teaches school professionals how to create trauma informed schools and classrooms. The training focuses on resilience, exploring the core values and beliefs of educators and places an emphasis on understanding how trauma impacts children and their school experience.

Lastly, proactive strategies such as fostering connections, prioritizing social and emotional skills, establishing safety and promoting play are presented. This course provides detailed information and concrete actions that answer not just the “why” but also the “how” to create the best classroom and school supports for traumatized students and the school professionals who serve them.

Note: This course covers the first 6 of 10 steps to Create a Trauma Informed School. If you have taken Trauma Informed Schools training prior to September 2018, this training includes very similar content.

Overview:
This course will be a journey of awareness, care and compassion for YOU.

Too frequently in a helping profession burnout, vicarious trauma and compassion fatigue are written off as the cost of caring. We know that this does not have to be true. You need to find ways to live and flourish in your work. How will you do it? This training gives you space to answer that question.

Practicing Resilience will instill the absolute necessity of your commitment to intentionally care for yourself. You must know that self-care is not separate from your work; it is non-negotiable for your work.

In this training, we will dig into what affects us as trauma practitioners, the psychophysiology of joy and stress, and the paradox as a spiritual possession. We will learn about the natural negativity bias and daily positive practices to counter it. We will inquire of our own universal needs and harness the power of neuroplasticity and awareness.

You will be guided through an array of experiences designed to help you attune yourself to your true nature, connect you to your strengths, and create resilient habits. You finish the day with a self-defined plan for how to care for yourself.

Overview:
This course introduces participants to a trauma informed and resilience focused mindset and teaches participants about toxic stress and trauma, how to help process those experiences and how to foster and nurture characteristics of resilience. It begins with a strong focus on resilience and includes an exploration of how core values and beliefs direct the way professionals work with children.

The four universal needs of all human beings as explained by the Circle of Courage® model including belonging, mastery, independence and generosity are explained and discussed.

Participants learn about the experience of trauma as one that impacts a person’s body and a demonstration of trauma’s impact on the developing brain is highlighted.

Participants learn the importance of sensory-based interventions and how to assess a child’s private logic and universal needs.

Finally, participants practice the development of trauma informed and resilience focused support plans for youth.

Note: If you have taken Children of Trauma prior to January of 2019, this training will have significant overlap with the exception of an introduction to the Circle of Courage. This training also includes some content from Courageous Connections and Courageous Classrooms.

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 12

Prerequisite: Completion of Children of Trauma, Children of Trauma & Resilience, Trauma Informed Schools OR Trauma Informed Resilient Schools

Overview:
This course will review the polyvagal theory and the psycho-physiology of trauma, so that participants can spend most of the day learning how to apply these theories in their daily work.

Learn how mind/body awareness and practice supports children with self-regulating and creating strong internal and external resources.

Experiential activities are practiced to help participants understand how mind body skills become a language for self-awareness, centering, expression and great insight into helping traumatized youth see themselves as survivors.

Participants learn how to rate symptoms and reactions while teaching grounding skills. Mind-body skills highlighted in this training include: breath work, mindfulness, movement, focused awareness, compassion, connection, guided imagery and expressive arts.

Prerequisite: Completion of Trauma Informed Schools OR Trauma Informed Resilient Schools

Overview:
This course builds upon Trauma Informed Resilient Schools course. There is a strong focus on understanding the link between private logic and deficits in the Circle of Courage’s universal needs with student academic achievement and behavior. Participants will learn how to integrate positive behavior intervention supports, rewards, and consequences into their classroom management systems.

Participants will learn how to assess students and create behavior support plans for students. Trauma informed, resilience focused student and classroom scenarios will be presented and discussed in small groups. Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions are discussed. Strategies to collaborate with families and communities and to support staff will be presented. Examples of how to collect and utilize outcome data will be shared.

Note: This course covers the last 4 of the 10 Steps to Create a Trauma Informed School and covers Tier 2 and Tier 3 supports such as resets that occur outside of the classroom. The course also provides an in-depth overview of how to assess and develop behavior support plans for students using the Circle of Courage® model. If you have taken the Trauma Informed Schools training prior to September 2018, there will be some overlapping content

Overview:
This course takes participants deeper into the brain science of trauma and toxic stress. The polyvagal theory, epigenetics and the science of resilience is explored. The content emphasizes the importance of hope when working with at risk and traumatized youth. Participants learn about the SITCAP® model (Structured Sensory Interventions for Traumatized Children, Adolescents and Parents) and practice sensory based interventions from a variety of SITCAP® model programs including Healing the Experience of Trauma: A Path to Resilience. Experiential activities and the presentation of case examples showcase how to process trauma, nurture and restore resilience in youth of all ages.

Note: The course combines content from ALL previous Structured Sensory Interventions and Healing the Experience of Trauma trainings. This training is for clinical practitioners.
