Part of Starr Commonwealth’s mission is to increase accessibility to trauma-informed, resilience-focused, evidence-based intervention tools and programs. By providing these resources to child advocates and professionals in school, agency, and community settings, the knowledge that is so critical to ensuring positive future health outcomes for survivors of trauma is able to be put into practice.

There are multiple ways to complete courses and achieve certification - online courses and in-person/virtual trainings being primary among them. Starr's library of courses is centered upon two certification tracks, with three core course per track:

Education Track

Trauma-Informed Resilient Schools

Teaches school professionals how to create trauma-informed schools and classrooms. Focuses on resilience, exploring the core values and beliefs of educators and places an emphasis on understanding how trauma impacts children and their school experience.

Resetting for Resilience

Builds upon Trauma-Informed Resilient Schools, with a strong focus on understanding the link between a student’s private logic and their academic achievement and behavior deficits in the Circle of Courage’s universal needs.

Healing Trauma and Restoring Resilience in Schools

Takes participants deeper into the brain science of trauma and toxic stress, exploring the polyvagal theory, epigenetics, and the science of resilience. The content emphasizes the importance of hope when working with at-risk students.

Completion of the three core courses above, two elective courses from the list below, and an exam will result in Certified Trauma & Resilience Practitioner (CTRP) certification.

Clinical Track

Children of Trauma and Resilience

Introduces participants to a trauma-informed and resilience-focused mindset and teaches participants about toxic stress and trauma, how to help process those experiences, and how to foster and nurture characteristics of resilience.

Structured Sensory Interventions II

Expressive ArtTakes participants deeper into the brain science of trauma and toxic stress, exploring the polyvagal theory, epigenetics, and the science of resilience. The content emphasizes the importance of hope when working with at risk and traumatized youth.

Trauma-Informed, Resilience-Focused Assessment and Differential Diagnosis

Mental health disorders are the most common diseases of childhood. Provides participants an understanding of the significant overlapping symptomology between mental health disorders and childhood trauma.

Completion of the three core courses above, two elective courses from the list below, and an exam will result in Certified Trauma & Resilience Practitioner (CTRP) certification.

Become a Starr Certified Coach or Trainer

Have you earned your Certified Trauma & Resilience Practitioner (CTRP) Certification? Are you interested in enhancing your knowledge and sharing your voice to advance Starr Commonwealth's trauma-informed, resilience-focused programs and interventions? Be a part of the Starr Commonwealth organization as a Certified Trauma & Resilience Coach (CTRC) and/or Trainer (CTRT)! If you have expertise in strength-based trauma practices and are a good communicator, then you are an excellent candidate for either certification.
