Starr Behavioral Health

Detroit | Calhoun County

Starr Commonwealth’s Behavioral Health Centers provide social, emotional, and educational resources to children and families across Southern Michigan. With locations in downtown Detroit and Calhoun County, Michigan, each center offers direct, community-based treatment and prevention services. Using our strength-based, trauma-informed, and resilience-focused philosophy we provide support, therapy, services, and interventions to heal trauma and build resilience.

Starr Behavioral Health services are offered in-person, via telephone, and/or over video.

Individual Therapy

Our team of licensed therapists works collaboratively with each person to create a tailored approach to therapy that aligns with their unique needs and goals. We provide a safe, confidential space for people to explore thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, helping them gain insight, build coping skills, and make positive changes.

Psychological Evaluations

Our team also provides comprehensive psychological evaluations for individuals seeking a deeper understanding of their mental health. These evaluations can be helpful in identifying underlying conditions, understanding behavioral patterns, and informing treatment planning.

Family and Group Therapy

Mental health is often influenced by relationships within families and communities. Our family and group therapy options provide support for individuals to work together on issues that affect the group dynamic, such as communication, conflict resolution, and mutual understanding. This holistic approach can help foster healthier, more resilient relationships and build strong, supportive networks.

A Holistic Approach to Mental Health

At Starr, we believe in treating the whole person, not just the symptoms. We take into account the biological, emotional, social, and environmental factors that contribute to mental health. Our team works collaboratively with each individual, and when appropriate, coordinates care with other professionals such as medical providers, educators, and social workers to provide a well-rounded approach to treatment.

Other services include:

  • Academic support
  • School-based mental health services
  • Occupational therapy
  • Trauma assessment and intervention
