Kenneth Ponds

Having served as a chaplain on the Albion, Michigan campus of Starr Commonwealth, Ken recently accepted the position as VP of Oneness and Special Advisor to the President in order to assist Starr in its ongoing journey towards becoming a more equitable, diverse and inclusive (EDI) organization.

An ordained pastor, Ken has received extensive training in children and family issues, trauma and loss, antiracism, and racial equity and healing. Previously, while at Starr, he helped Starr in developing its racial healing efforts and training which led to the creation of Glasswing, for which he is a certified, lead facilitator.

Ken holds an Associate of Arts degree from St. John’s College, Winfield, Kansas; a Bachelor of Science degree from Concordia Senior College, Ft. Wayne, Indiana; and a Masters of Divinity degree from Christ Seminary and the Lutheran School of Theology, Chicago, Illinois.

Ken has written numerous articles which have appeared in The Starr News, and the journal, Reclaiming Youth International. Also, he is a contributing writer to the book, Deep Brain Learning, edited by Dr. Larry K. Brendtro and Dr. Martin L. Mitchell.

Before returning to Starr, Ken established 1 Day LLC which sought to promote thought and introspection focused on racial healing and equity. The motto of 1 Day is “One Day begins today”.
