Starr Specialist (CTRS) Live Consultation
This live virtual consultation, Unwanted Behavior as an Unmet Need, helps educators reframe challenging student behavior as a meaningful signal rather than something to control or punish. Instead of asking, “How do we stop this behavior?” participants learn to ask, “What need is this child trying to communicate?”
Grounded in trauma-informed practices and the Circle of Courage framework, this session explores how behavior outbursts often reflect unmet needs such as belonging, mastery, independence, or generosity. Participants will examine why traditional discipline strategies can unintentionally escalate behaviors and damage relationships—and how a needs-based approach leads to more effective, lasting change.
Through guided reflection and hands-on application, this consultation focuses on how to put these concepts into practice in real-world settings. Attendees will learn how to identify the root causes of behavior and apply practical strategies in their own classrooms and programs. The result is a more connected environment where students feel understood, supported, and better equipped to succeed.
