The beginning of a school year is about so much more than learning names, establishing routines, and organizing supplies.It’s about getting to know one another. And what strengths do they already carry with them?
Our new Circle of Courage Maps were created to help you begin those conversations.
This free resource includes four student activities centered around Belonging, Mastery, Independence, and Generosity—the four universal growth needs at the heart of the Circle of Courage.
Each map gives students space to reflect on their own story: the people and places that matter to them, the skills they’re developing, choices they’re proud of, goals they’re working toward, and ways they make a difference. But the real value isn’t simply completing the page. It’s what can happen next.
Share the maps with partners. Talk about them in small groups. Display them in your classroom and revisit them throughout the year. You might even complete your own alongside your students—giving them an opportunity to learn a little more about you, too.
Because connection begins when we feel known. And when students have opportunities to recognize their own strengths—and see those strengths in one another—we create classrooms where belonging can take root.
